Overview of pollution to Malibu Beach
January 15th, 2007The Malibu Pier renovation is still uncompleted since the pier closed in January 1995 by the State of California. The Malibu Pier is an environmental hazard because it is polluting the Pacific Ocean with coal tar based creosote which is a highly toxic wood preservative. Federal law requires that no amount is to be realeased into the ocean, however, the Malibu Pier continues to emit the toxic chemicals into the water. Malibu Beach what was one of the most famous surfing beaches in the world has been degragated to a sewage receptical because a sewage treatment plant dumps millions of gallons of partially treated sewage into Malibu Canyon about 5 miles upstream. A massive landfill sits at the top of Malibu Canyon and contributes to emiting highly toxic chemicals into Malibu creek.
